This hand painted basswood ornament features a Mountie in the traditional red serge uniform. From the first horseback patrols across Canada, the Mountie has symbolised Canada. Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, initiated the creation of the North-West Mounted Police in 1873. In 1920, the law enforcement agency became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The RCMP is unique in the world since it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body.
